Clashes with shoving and tear gas between police and farmers who tried to block the entrance of ‘Macedonia’ Airport — watch the video

Temporary traffic interruption on the PATHE motorway in Boeotia – Indefinite blockade at the Kerdyllia junction on the Egnatia Highway in both directions – Farmers from Thessaly remain on the E65

Newsroom December 5 03:10

Farmers from Eastern Thessaloniki and Halkidiki attempted to block the entrance of “Macedonia” Airport indefinitely, arriving with their tractors in front of the Agricultural School shortly after noon.

However, police forces were already present there, deploying vans and preventing them from advancing toward the airport. For a few minutes, tensions rose as officers, using their shields and tear gas, stopped the farmers from proceeding, resulting in minor injuries.

Tension is running high in Thessaloniki, where farmers’ blockades have formed, as police have arrived at the site to prevent them from blocking the entrance to the Macedonia airport.

The situation appeared to be getting out of hand when, as seen in protothema.gr videos, farmers got into their tractors and backed up towards the MAT men at the scene. They can even be heard shouting, “run him over…!”

Watch the farmers backing their tractors towards the police officers:

Police forces arrived at the scene today and deployed cops and banned them from continuing to the airport. For a few minutes, tensions rose, and the police, putting up their shields and using chemicals, prevented the farmers from continuing, and there were minor injuries.

The farmers persisted, asking for the road to be cleared for an ambulance to pass and making it clear that they did not want tension, but the police were adamant.
