Zelensky will receive the peace plan documents today, says the head of the Ukrainian negotiators

Trump yesterday criticized his Ukrainian counterpart, saying he has not yet read the proposal

Newsroom December 8 10:07

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky will be briefed on his team’s dialogue with US officials and will receive all documents related to the peace plan today, the chief Ukrainian negotiator Rustem Umerov said.

In a post on Telegram, the secretary of the Ukrainian National Security Council added that the primary goal of the Kiev negotiating team at the recent talks in the US was to receive a full briefing on the US talks in Moscow and all drafts of the current proposals.

“Together with all partners, we have to do everything possible for a dignified end to this war,” the Ukrainian official also noted.

Trump criticized Zelensky for “not having read” the peace proposal

US President Donald Trump criticised his Ukrainian counterpart last Sunday night, accusing him of “not having read” the proposal aimed at concluding a peace deal unveiled three weeks ago and the subject of separate talks between Washington, Moscow and Kiev.

“So we talked to (Russian) President (Vladimir) Putin, we talked to Ukrainian leaders–in particular Zelensky, President Zelensky–and I have to say I’m a little disappointed that President Zelensky has not yet read the U.S. government’s proposal” for a settlement of the war in Ukraine, he said. Trump was asked about it by reporters during an event in the US capital.

“It serves Russia, you know I think Russia would rather take the whole country,” but “I’m not sure it serves Zelensky,” Donald Trump also said.

Since the U.S. plan was unveiled three weeks ago, there have been rounds of talks with the Ukrainians in Geneva and Florida to amend the text to meet more of Kiev’s demands.

The text was presented to Mr Putin on Tuesday when US envoy Whitcoff and Kushner, a son-in-law and adviser to the US president, visited Moscow.

Few details have been released about the modified plan. The original version of the text was seen by both Kiev and its European allies as too favorable to Moscow.
