Roads open all over the country – Farmers remain on blockades

Tractors in safe places in Athens-Lamia, Larissa and Western Greece in view of the meeting of farmers with the Prime Minister

Newsroom January 16 10:18

The farmers who are in the blockades of Bralos, Atalanti, Kastro, and Thebes have moved their tractors to a safe spot on the right side of the road, allowing traffic on the highway from Lamia to Athens to be fully restored.

Yesterday at noon, the last settlements were completed, mainly in the area of Martinos and at the height of Kastro. As of one o’clock in the afternoon, all small and larger detours that had been imposed in the previous days were stopped, as the competent police authorities judged that the passage of vehicles can now be done safely. As a result, traffic is being conducted normally in both directions, both from Athens to Lamia and from Lamia to Athens, via the highway.

It is noted that the tractors remain at the points of mobilization, in the framework of the nationwide coordination of blockades, after the relevant decision was taken in Palamas, Karditsa. Farmers say that they are in a phase of preparation in view of Monday’s scheduled meeting with the Prime Minister, from which they expect specific commitments and solutions to their demands.

Tractors remain at the Nice junction with open roads

Meanwhile, rural mobilizations are ongoing in Nikeaia, Larissa, with tractors remaining at the rally points, while roads remain open to traffic.

At last night’s general meeting of the Nikaia blockade, the situation was assessed, and the next steps were recorded.

The farmers are in a phase of preparation in view of the scheduled meeting on Monday with the Prime Minister, from which they expect specific commitments and substantial answers to their demands.

Today, Friday, members of the Coordination Committee are expected to appear before the Public Prosecutor’s Office, asking for an order to open the security camera footage in order to determine who is responsible for the damage caused to the tractors of two farmers.

On Tuesday, the farmers will hold another general meeting to collectively learn about the results of the meeting and decide on their next steps.

Open all roads in the region of Western Greece, and tractors remain at the mobilization points

All roads remain open in the region of Western Greece, but the tractors and agricultural vehicles of farmers and livestock farmers remain at the points of mobilization, under the decision recently taken by the Panhellenic coordinating committee of blockades.

In particular, in Aitoloakarnania, vehicle traffic on the Antirion – Ioannina highway, at the tollgate of Angelokastro, is proceeding normally, while farmers and ranchers have parked tractors and agricultural vehicles at the edge of the roadway.

In Achaia, the major perimeter road of Patras, at the height of the junction of Eglikada, has been opened, following the decision of farmers and ranchers, who had set up a blockade in the aforementioned area, to place their tractors and agricultural machinery on the edge of the roadway.

However, the exit branch of the Eglikada junction, in the direction of Pyrgos, remains closed.
