According to the Fire Service, authorities were alerted at around 1:00 p.m. about a group of eight hikers located close to the summit of Profitis Ilias, at an elevation exceeding 2,000 meters.
There is ongoing communication with the hiking group and its leader, who has informed rescue services that four members of the group are injured and require evacuation, according to the Athens–Macedonian News Agency (ANA-MPA).
An attempt was made to reach the group by helicopter, but this was unsuccessful due to strong winds in the area. Rescue efforts are currently being carried out by ground teams.
A total of 41 firefighters have been deployed for the operation, including mountain rescue units from the 1st and 6th EMAK, the 9th EMODE unit, the IKAROS drone team from the Peloponnese, as well as a helicopter from the Hellenic Search and Rescue Coordination Center.
