The fire that broke out in the early hours of Monday (19/1) at a plastics factory in Menidi is still fully ongoing, with the blaze quickly growing to large proportions due to the flammable materials inside the facility. The 112 emergency alert system was activated in the area so that residents could protect themselves from the smoke.
Six fire engines with 22 firefighters, as well as a special aerial ladder vehicle, rushed immediately to the scene, while water tanker trucks from local authorities also assisted in the firefighting effort. Shortly afterward, the forces were reinforced, and there are now 42 firefighters operating with 19 vehicles.
Firefighters are making superhuman efforts to bring the fire under control, in order to prevent it from spreading to neighboring buildings.
A deputy mayor told SKAI that two other businesses have also suffered damage, one of them dealing in fabrics.

Total destruction of the factory
Despite the large-scale mobilization, the plastics factory, located at the intersection of Dekeleias and Katara streets, was completely destroyed by the flames.

Causes of the fire unknown
So far, the conditions under which the fire broke out remain unknown, and for the moment the information that the flames appeared after someone attempted to steal from the factory and set it on fire to cover their tracks has not been confirmed.
The exact causes are expected to be investigated by the competent investigative department of the Fire Service.
