At least 13 children have died in a school vehicle crash in South Africa‘s Gauteng province, police say.
It was announced on Monday that a truck collided with a school minibus, with initial reports saying at least 11 students were killed at the scene, while two more later succumbed to their injuries in hospital.
The private vehicle was transporting pupils to various primary and secondary schools in the south-west of Johannesburg when the accident occurred at about 7:00am.
Eyewitnesses said the minibus, which the children were on, attempted to overtake stationary vehicles before colliding head-on with the truck. Police have launched an investigation into the cause of the crash, while the truck driver is expected to give evidence.
