The President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, stated today in a post on platform X that during her meeting with a delegation from the United States Congress in Davos, Switzerland — on the sidelines of the annual World Economic Forum — she stressed, among other things, the need for “unquestionable respect for the sovereignty of Greenland and the Kingdom of Denmark.” She explained that this is an issue of paramount importance for transatlantic relations.
She reaffirmed that the European Union wishes to continue working together with the United States, NATO, and other allies, in close cooperation with Denmark, to advance shared security interests.
Von der Leyen also noted that discussions included transatlantic trade and investment, emphasising that the imposition of tariffs does not serve the common interest.
Additionally, she stated that efforts aimed at achieving a fair and lasting peace in Ukraine were discussed during the meeting with the US Congressional delegation.
