Mitsotakis to Tasoulas: I bring you news of turbulent times – Let us avoid the worst in EU–US relations

He met with the President of the Republic – “Greece has strategic relations with the US, but it is also a member of the EU; we have fought for the defense of multilateralism and International Law”

An appeal for “reason and dialogue to prevail so that we avoid the worst in EU–US relations” was made on Tuesday morning by Kyriakos Mitsotakis during his customary monthly meeting with the President of the Republic, Konstantinos Tasoulas.

As the Prime Minister stressed, “Greece has strategic relations with the US, but it is also a member of the European Union,” adding that our country “has fought for the defense of multilateralism and International Law.”

Opening the dialogue in front of the cameras, Mr. Mitsotakis said to Mr. Tasoulas, “I bring you news of turbulent times,” since, as he noted, “2026 began with unprecedented international geopolitical and geoeconomic challenges,” and “fundamental constants upon which postwar peace and prosperity were built are being called into question.”

“In this environment, the foremost priority is the interest of the Homeland,” the Prime Minister added, and characterized as a “national priority” the “strengthening of the Armed Forces and our deterrent capability.”
