Easter travelers not deterred by bad weather

The Easter exodus was large but did not come near that of pre-crisis levels

Newsroom April 11 08:50

The weather forecasts predicted clouds and rain but hundreds of thousands of cars left Greek cities to spend the Easter holiday with their families. Athens exits noted that traffic was at a similar level to that of previous years, falling by just 1% to last year but still significantly lower to pre-crisis levels in 2009.

92,423 cars were counted passing through the Afidnes toll gates towards Lamia from Thursday until the afternoon of Holy Saturday. 126,000 cars passed through the toll gates at Elefsina. In the previous year there had been 93,283 cars (Afidnes) and 128,000 cars (Elefsina), whereas in 2009 numbers had been 30% higher.

Drivers in Northern Greece on Saturday were warned to beware of rock falls and flooding in areas around the network in Macedonia, Thrace and Thessaly.
