Minister of Education and Religious Affairs, Kimberly Gilfoyle, had a meeting with the US Ambassador to Greece, Sofia Zacharaki. In a warm atmosphere, the two women discussed various issues related to the cooperation between the United States and Greece on an educational level, as well as actions related to both the 200 years since the exit of Messolonghi and the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of American Independence.
“Greek-American cooperation in education is not temporary; it is an investment in our common future,” Ms. Zacharaki wrote.
At the same time, Ms. Gilfoyle had the opportunity to visit a kindergarten, where she came into contact with both teachers and young students.
A detailed post by the Minister of Education
“It was not the first meeting and acquaintance with the US Ambassador to Greece @kimberlyguilfoyle, but it was the most meaningful, as during her visit to the Ministry of Education, we had the opportunity to talk in depth about things that she herself knows well.
About the actions we are planning together with high symbolism to mark this year, the 200th anniversary of the Exodus of Mesolonghi and the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of American Independence – two historical milestones that highlight our shared ideals of freedom and democracy.
For the common understanding that education is also the means to reduce inequality, for the value of special education and special education.
We discussed academic collaborations and joint graduate programs that bring more American students and researchers to Greek public universities, which we want to become the country’s open window to the world. But we also shared beautiful moments with children younger and older as we often organize experiential information, empowerment, and entertainment activities in the Ministry’s premises. While we also went to the crèche that operates inside the ministry to see the little children!
Greek-American cooperation in education is not a coincidence; it is an investment in our common future.
With planning, trust, and joint actions, we are building bridges of knowledge that unite the young generations of both countries!”

In a corresponding post, Kimberly Guilfoyle said:
“It was great to meet with Secretary @sofiazacharaki to discuss ways to advance US-Greece cooperation in education, elevating the next generation, and strengthening both countries. We look forward to our joint Freedom 250 celebrations this year.”
